Heritage Days in Nantes and Clisson

From Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20, 2026, the European Heritage Days return to Nantes and Clisson.

Over three days, historical monuments, museums, and sites usually closed to the public will offer a behind-the-scenes look through tours, special activities, and numerous free openings.

This 43rd edition places a special emphasis on craftsmanship and heritage preservation. In Nantes, the program also highlights photographic heritage.

Discover a different side of Nantes' heritage

With over 150 events announced, Nantes offers a particularly rich program.

It is a chance to step inside buildings often known only from the outside and to explore the city's more hidden facets.

Highlights include:

• Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Cathedral: guided tours offer rare access to the upper levels and attic spaces. Free slots requiring registration are available on Saturday. 
   
• The Artisans' Village (Village des Artisans) at Place Graslin: on Sunday, stonemasons, master glassmakers, upholsterers, and other professionals will showcase their trades and skills to mark the 40th anniversary of the *Nantes Renaissance* association. 
   
• The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception (Chapelle de l'Immaculée): open to the public on Sunday afternoon, offering a chance to admire its restored Art Deco frescoes. 
   
• The Loire-Atlantique Prefecture (Hôtel de Préfecture): guided tours take visitors through its ceremonial reception rooms. 
   
• The Jules Verne Museum: tours and workshops allow families to discover the writer's world. 
   
• The Loire-Atlantique Firefighters' Museum (Musée des Sapeurs-Pompiers): a unique visit to explore the history and heritage associated with the region's firefighters.

Clisson: From the Castle to the Banks of the Sèvre

Heritage Days offer a wonderful opportunity to rediscover Clisson, its Italian-influenced architecture, and the landscapes along the Sèvre Nantaise river.

Several iconic sites are taking part in the event:

• Clisson Castle: This medieval fortress is open to the public for free over the weekend, featuring "flash tours" and special activities.
   
• Domaine de la Garenne Lemot: Its park, follies, and buildings inspired by Italian architecture offer a walk that blends heritage and nature. 
   
• Tivoli Theatre: A rare chance to visit a site linked to Clisson’s Italian-influenced reconstruction.
   
• Plessard Mill: Situated on the banks of the Sèvre, it stands as a testament to the valley’s artisanal and industrial past.
